Shamrock Texas Gets Tesla Charging Station
The U-Drop Inn, Shamrock, Texas, announced on February 22, 2015 that "Construction is complete and the Tesla Charging Station is now open and operating in the N.E. parking area behind the U-Drop Inn."
According to the Tesla website there are currently six Tesla supercharger stations in Texas: Corsicana, Columbus, Huntsville, San Marcos, Shamrock and Waco.
Shamrock, Texas gets to boast that it is the first electric charging station on the Texas portion of Route 66.
There is also a movement to make Route 66 the "first electric highway." I think this is a great marketing strategy for both electric vehicles and the business on Route 66.
The main reasons electric vehicles failed to take hold in the early 1900s were due to the limited distance an electric vehicle could travel, the lack of charging stations, and finally, cheap gasoline.
For electric car and automotive history enthusiasts, this is a fascinating time! Not since the beginning of the automobile age has anyone had to hunt for a place to refuel. Today, electric vehicles are still limited by how far they can travel due to the lack of charging stations.
Today we are witnessing the expansion of electric charging stations that are key to the success of the electric vehicle and our future. This is a big deal.
