Don-Mar Motor Court

don mar sign Scratch another landmark off the list because now even the sign is history.

The Don-Mar Motor Court was built in 1935. It might have gotten its name from the owners, Don and Mary Roberts.

It was torn down in 2008 by a developer with plans of building a condominium. Fortunately, the sign was left intact with the intention of incorporating it into the new building, appropriately called the Don-Mar Condominiums. Apparently the condo deal never materialized and the lot remained vacant for years.

Del-Mar Court Post Card

Research is always tedious, but not without its occasional reward. I stumbled across this post card for the Del-Mar Courts in Brownwood, Texas. I noticed that both the name and the sign design were strangely similar. This remains a mystery, but I do wonder if there was some connection.

Give Me a Sign!

On February 27, 2013, the sign was taken down to prepare for construction of a new business that specializes in German automobile repair.

So, what happened to the sign? More on that later...
